Summon Orange (Orange)

Cinnamon Bun

Summoning Orange is the scene in which Broccoli Bunch uses the Cheshire Choker to call forth a spirit cat and establishes the bond that makes the summoned creature her companion. The event begins as a failed experiment with an enchanted collar and ends with Broccoli holding a kitten made of semi-transparent fluff, astonished and delighted by the sudden expansion of her magical possibilities.

Circumstances and Magical Object

The summoning takes place while Broccoli is hiking toward a campsite as the sun begins to set. She has time before sundown, but the road rises steeply, making the climb harder on her legs than the constant jumping that preceded it. While walking, she reaches into a side pocket of her backpack and takes out the Cheshire Choker, an enchanted Cheshire Cat’s Collar of Rare quality. Its stated function is precise: it allows the user to summon a spirit cat once a day.

The object does not respond immediately. Broccoli pushes spare mana into it and gets no result, then tests whether it must be worn. Wearing it as a bracelet also fails. Her irritation turns into reluctant compliance when she fastens it around her neck, where the smiling kitty mouth hangs over her sternum. The collar therefore becomes effective only after she treats it as intended, and the scene makes the equipment’s practical use part of the discovery rather than presenting the summoning as effortless knowledge.

The Summoning Sequence

Once the collar is around her neck, Broccoli focuses and feeds it more mana. The cost is substantial: her reserves fall by nearly seventy points in a single expenditure. That concrete loss gives the event a physical and strategic stake. The collar is not merely decorative, and its power is not free; activating it consumes a noticeable portion of the resources on which Broccoli depends during her adventure.

The magic first appears as a sparkly cloud forming at chest height. It twists and spins before being sucked inward as though a black hole has opened in the world. Broccoli feels herself being pulled toward the phenomenon, while the ring on her finger grows cold. Yet the surrounding world does not change. The sequence briefly creates the impression that the summoner herself may be drawn away, then resolves without transporting her or altering the landscape.

A popping sound follows, compared in the narration to a cork being pulled. A cat appears, but the apparent adult animal is immediately corrected into something smaller: a kitten. The summoned creature is a ball of semi-transparent fluff suspended in the air, surveying its surroundings with feline indifference. It looks at Broccoli, then walks through the air toward her, establishing that its movement does not depend on ordinary ground or ordinary physical rules.

Bond and Immediate Reaction

Broccoli uses Insight before reaching for the creature, and the result identifies it as a spirit cat companion bound to Broccoli Bunch. The binding is the decisive consequence of the event. This is not simply a temporary visual manifestation that appears and disappears after the spell; the summoned being is recognized as a companion connected to her.

Her response is immediate, physical, and exuberant. She picks the kitten out of the air, discovers that it feels soft while also being somehow present and insubstantial, and compares that sensation with the ghosts she has touched, distinguishing the kitten from them by its warmth rather than coldness. She spins once, then hugs it close despite its unamused expression. Her excitement is expressed through a cry about having a kitty summon, followed by affectionate attention to the kitten’s appearance and sex. The contrast between the creature’s supernatural arrival and its unimpressed feline demeanor gives the scene its comic balance.

Consequences and Narrative Significance

The event changes Broccoli’s practical situation by adding a spirit-cat companion to her abilities and by demonstrating that the Cheshire Choker’s once-per-day summoning function is real. It also teaches her that the collar must be worn properly and that the activation requires a large mana payment. The failed attempts with spare mana, the bracelet, and the eventual neck placement form a sequence of trial, correction, and reward.

The value shift is from magical uncertainty to delighted possession. Before activation, the collar is an unexplained item whose promise has not been fulfilled; afterward, Broccoli has a bound companion in her arms and treats the moment as the best day of her life. The event also reinforces a recurring tension in her adventure: supernatural powers can arrive through alarming or difficult mechanisms, yet their consequences may be intimate, playful, and emotionally disarming rather than purely combative. The kitten’s warmth, transparency, air-walking, and lack of interest make the summon both a system-confirmed ability and a living presence within Broccoli’s journey.
